Inside The Curriculum

BJJ for Students Past the Fundamentals.

The Advanced class is for belted students who are past the fundamentals and ready for deeper technical work. Professor Madeley teaches advanced concepts directly from the Carlos Machado curriculum, with intensity matched to a room full of experienced grapplers.

Class format leans heavier on live rolling, situational drilling, and competition-relevant work. Expect to be challenged. Expect to learn faster than you did at white belt because every rep now compounds on existing skill.

Students preparing for competition find this class essential. Those who do not compete still benefit from the higher rep count of advanced rolling partners and the deeper technical material covered each week.

What You'll Learn
  • Advanced positional concepts
  • Sweeps, submissions, and submission chains at depth
  • Situational sparring and competition prep drills
  • Live rolling at full intensity with experienced partners
  • Belt progression and Carlos Machado advanced curriculum

Before You Sign Up

Common questions about Adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: Advanced.

Do I need a blue belt to attend?

Typically yes. Blue belt or higher, or explicit instructor permission. The class assumes students are past the fundamentals.

Is the class competition-focused?

It supports competitors but is not exclusively for them. Many students train Advanced for the technical depth and the quality of training partners, with no intent to compete.

How is this different from the Beginner class?

Pace, depth, and intensity. The Beginner class is built around teaching fundamentals to new adults. The Advanced class assumes those fundamentals and goes deeper, with harder rolls and more situational work.

Can I attend both Beginner and Advanced classes?

Yes. Many belted students attend both: the Beginner class to drill fundamentals and the Advanced class for harder live training.
