Questions About Finding the Right Fit.
What program should my child start with?
The Kids Martial Arts program is the standard starting point. It blends Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Kickboxing, and Judo so students get a complete movement education rather than a narrow specialty. If your child is specifically drawn to grappling, Kids BJJ is a direct path. Either way, Professor Thompson will assess and place your child in the right age group on day one.
What program should I start with as an adult?
Adult BJJ Beginner is the most welcoming entry point for adults with no prior experience. It is taught directly by Professor Madeley, a 5th Degree Black Belt under Carlos Machado, and is structured around adults who have never grappled before. Adult Conditioning and Total Body Fitness with Coach Tony pair well alongside BJJ for a complete training stack.
Can I train in more than one program?
Yes, and many of our students do. Adult BJJ plus Adult Conditioning is a common combination. Belted students typically train both Beginner and Advanced BJJ classes. For kids, the Children's Program covers BJJ, Wrestling, Kickboxing, and Judo in a single program, so most kids start there.
What is Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu?
Carlos Machado is the head of the Carlos Machado Jiu Jitsu lineage, one of the most credible Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lineages in the world. The Machado brothers are nephews of Carlos Gracie. Professor Madeley trained directly under Carlos Machado in Dallas and earned his black belt in 2009. The curriculum at this academy is taught from that lineage.
Do I need to commit to one program?
No long-term commitment to a single program is required. Memberships cover enrollment in a program, not a lifetime declaration. Students change programs, add programs, or pause programs as their goals evolve.
Are programs sorted by age or by skill level?
Programs are grouped primarily by age. The Children's Program has age groupings within it. The adult side is split by skill: Beginner BJJ for new adults, Advanced BJJ for belted students.
Do you offer After School Care?
Yes. After School Care for K–5th grade picks up from local schools and lives on a separate site at thecolonysbestafterschool.com. Visit that site for the full program details and enrollment.
How can I see the schedule?
The current weekly schedule is being finalized. Visit the Schedule page or call (214) 494-6111 for the most up-to-date class times.
