Why Adults Walk In

You Want Skill, Not Cardio Theater.

  1. Adult BJJ technique drill at CMJJ The Colony
    01 The Body

You are not 25 anymore. The cardio class does not feel like training.

You want to move, sweat, and end the session like you actually did something. Treadmill miles do not scratch that itch.

  2. Class instruction at CMJJ The Colony
    02 The Skill

You want to learn something, not just burn calories.

Every class teaches a technique with real application. Conditioning is the byproduct, not the point.

  3. Adult class at CMJJ The Colony
    03 The Room

Train with adults who show up.

The room is full of adults who took the same first step you are about to take. Consistency is contagious here.

No Jargon. No Hype.

What a Class Actually Looks Like.

Warm-Up · 10 min

Mobility, movement drills, and grappling-specific warm-up. Calibrated to whoever is on the mat that night, not punishment cardio.

Technique + Drilling · 30 min

Professor Madeley walks the position. Class drills it with no resistance until the mechanics are clean, then adds calibrated resistance.

Live Rounds · 20 min

Supervised positional work, then live rounds for students ready for them. Beginners drill or roll light. No ego, no surprises.

Adult Questions

Everything You Want to Know Before Your First Class.

I am out of shape. Can I start?

Yes. BJJ is the most accommodating martial art for adults at any starting fitness level. Conditioning improves as a result of training, not as a prerequisite for it.

I am in my 40s or 50s. Is this for me?

Yes. Some of our most consistent students started in their 40s and 50s. BJJ is technique over strength. It ages well.

Will I have to spar on day one?

No. Live rolling is introduced when the instructor decides you have the mechanics. For most adults that is within the first month, at controlled resistance with experienced partners.

I have never grappled. Where do I start?

Adult BJJ Beginner. Built for adults with zero prior experience. Taught directly by Professor Madeley.

What is the Carlos Machado lineage?

Carlos Machado is one of the most credible Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lineages in the world. The Machado brothers are nephews of Carlos Gracie. Professor Madeley trained directly under Carlos Machado and earned his black belt in 2009.

Can I do BJJ and fitness in the same week?

Yes, and many adults do. Adult BJJ plus Conditioning or Total Body Fitness with Coach Tony is a common training stack. Conditioning is built to complement, not compete with, the mat work.

How often should I come?

Two classes per week is the floor for consistent progress. Three classes per week is the standard for adults who want to advance steadily.

How long until I get a blue belt?

Blue belt timelines vary based on how often you train and how quickly you absorb the curriculum. There is no fixed clock. Promotion is instructor-nominated based on demonstrated competency.

What if I cannot train every week?

Adults travel. Adults get busy. The standard is consistency over time, not perfection. Members come back from layoffs all the time and pick up where they left off.

How do I book the trial?

Click any free-class button on this page or call (214) 494-6111. No contract, no payment to reserve.
