Inside The Curriculum

BJJ That Builds Calm Problem-Solvers.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu develops leverage, position, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. It rewards patience and technique over strength, which is exactly why it works so well for kids.

Our kids BJJ program teaches the core positions (mount, side control, guard, back) along with fundamental sweeps, escapes, and submissions appropriate to age. Live rolling is introduced under instructor supervision once a student demonstrates the technique and self-control to roll safely.

Belt promotions follow the Carlos Machado kids curriculum: white through green, with stripes earned between ranks. Promotion is instructor-nominated and based on demonstrated competency, not time-in-grade.

Before You Sign Up

Common questions about Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Kids.

Is BJJ rolling safe for kids?

Yes, when introduced correctly. Live rolling is only allowed once a student has demonstrated the technique and control to engage safely. Younger kids and beginners drill positional flows instead.

My child is smaller than the others. Is that a problem?

BJJ is the most welcoming martial art for smaller students. The whole point of the art is that technique and leverage beat size and strength. Smaller kids often advance faster because they cannot rely on physical dominance.

Can my child compete?

Yes. We support students who want to compete. Local and regional tournaments are available for kids who pursue it. Competition is optional, never required.

How is this different from the Kids Martial Arts program?

The Kids Martial Arts program blends BJJ, Wrestling, Kickboxing, and Judo for a complete movement education. Kids BJJ focuses exclusively on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the Carlos Machado kids belt curriculum.
